Sonotube TubeBase® Plastic Footing Forms

TubeBase plastic square footing forms are used in conjunction with Sonotube forms. When you use this innovative product, excavation, backfill and pouring concrete become a one-step process. The result is lower costs due to savings in time, labor and materials.

Conventional method

Materials required
(1 footing):


- 4 Stakes (forming)
- 16 D nails
- 8’ to 12’ of lumber (footing
  form) 2X12’s or 2X10’s or
  2X8’s (Depending on footing
  requirements)
- 1”X4” lumber for braces and
  stakes
- 8 D Nails
- 1” roofing nails or 1” wood
   screws
- Sonotube® form
- Concrete
- Rebar #4 or #5
- Rebar stand (optional)
- Rebar ties

Tools & equipment required:

- Shovel, hand saw, hammer,
   square
- Level, backhoe, electricity,
   saw horse
- Circular saw, tape measure,
   pry bar, trowel
- Sledge hammer

Labor required - Day 1

• Excavate/dig hole with shovel
  or backhoe.
• Cut wood into 4 pieces and nail
  together to form a box.
• Place box into excavated hole.
• Level.
• Stake box into excavated hole.
• Set rebar on rebar stand.
• Cut/bend rebar to L shape.
• Insert rebar in footing to receive
  column.
• Screed footing.

Labor required - Day 2

• Remove/strip wood forms and
   stakes at footing.
• Secure strapping cleats to wood
   footing form to receive Sonotube
   form.
• Cut Sonotube form to required
   height.
• Connect/secure Sonotube form
   to cleats with 1” screws.
• Plumb/level Sonotube form as
   you backfill around tube with
   shovel or backhoe.
• Pour concrete into form.
• Finish top of concrete.
• Insert brackets or anchor bolts
   at top of Sonotube form as
   required.

Labor required - Day 3

• Remove bracing.
• Cut off part of Sonotube form
   visible above ground.

 

TubeBase® method

Materials Required (1 Footing):
- TubeBase
- Construction tube
- 1” screws
- Rebar (if required)

Tools & equipment required:

- Shovel, hand saw, battery
  powered drill, level, screw
  driver, backhoe

Labor required - Day 1

• Excavate/dig hole with shovel
   or backhoe.
• Cut Sonotube form to required
   height.
• Set Sonotube form on Tubebase
   to determine proper fit.
• Cut off excess plastic at top of
   wedges/rings being used.
• Screw Sonotube form to
  Tubebase with 4 1” screws.
• Install rebar if required.
• Place combined Tubebase &
  Sonotube form in hole on
  undisturbed soil or 4” to 6” of
  crushed stone.
• Plumb/align prior and during
   backfilling.
• Brace top of Sonotube form if
   required (above ground).
• Backfill - Avoid dropping rocks or
   heavy soil directly on Tubebase.
• Invert another Tubebase and use
   as funnel when pouring concrete.
• Insert brackets or anchor bolts at
   top of Sonotube form as required.

Labor required - Day 2

• Remove bracing if required.
• Cut off portion of form visible
   above ground.

Labor required - Day 3
